In China, some researchers and language teachers find out that the pragmatic competence of most of students is much poorer than their language competence. The author has conducted a questionnaire survey to find out the principal causes of non-English majors. To follow up the questionnaire survey, the author expected to explore teachers' awareness of pragmatic competence teaching. Thus, 45 teachers teaching non-English majors were interviewed. All of them had taught college English for more than two years.
Typical questions asked include "How do you teach intensive reading?" "How do you teach listening?" "What do you think of the pragmatic competence of non-English majors in China?" "Is it necessary to make pragmatic competence one of the goals of English language teaching?" "Do you think students' pragmatic competence can be improved through classroom teaching?..
