Childhood obesity is considered to be an epidemic. "One out of five American children is overweight." (2)"The increase in obesity is not caused by the change in the gene pool, but rather by the change in the environment."(1) Teaching healthy behaviors at a young age is important since change becomes more difficult with age. Behaviors involving physical activity and nutrition are the foundations of preventing obesity in children and adolescents. Families and schools are the two most critical links in providing the foundation for those behaviors.
Physical Education is a learning process that focuses on learning domains in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective. Physical education should be a positive and exciting experience for all participants, regardless of ability level. Physical Education should focus on individual fitness, promoting skills, and life-long physical activity that will lead to an active lifestyle. I believe that all of these concepts are an important part in Physical Education today...
