Effective schools are those that successfully progress the learning and development of all of their students. There are many factors combining to make each school what it is, and each school is unique. Yet, it is possible to recognize a set of objectives or characteristics that contributes to a school being effective. There are five points that focus on the effectiveness of schools in our society and they are: Strong and professional leadership, a clear and positive philosophy, a safe and orderly setting, meaningful assessment on student growth and development, and a broad and balanced curriculum.
Strong and professional leadership usually begins with a strong and talented principal. The principal should be qualified and the details of his/her qualifications and experiences must be available to the school community. The principal is able to demonstrate detailed knowledge about the school and its students. By doing this, that person is portrayed as a leader who cares and who is informed about all aspects of the school. A high staff morale at the school is imperative to limit turnover of the teaching staff. The staff is influenced by the actions of their leader and this is apparent when they continue to love the job as they always have...
