phones, within the last decade, have swept into the hands of the British Columbian youth. My research essay will focus on the impact of the cell phone to BC youth. I am going to research whether cell phones have become a benefit or a burden to users. In order to find accurate answers, I will research how cell phones have become a popular piece of technology, advantages and disadvantages of the cell phone, how market advertisers have grabbed the attention of the youth, and how the youth feel about cell phones. Observing cell phone users and conducting surveys in public areas will be the main techniques for my fieldwork. My surveys will consist on questions such as how often a cell phone is used daily; the amount of calls received; the expense of a cell phone plan; the reason why a person would purchase a cell phone; and the affects of taking a cell phone away from an avid user. In addition to my fieldwork, I plan to research cell phones through library resources, newspaper articles, and the internet. I will circle the issue of cell phones becoming technological necessities, or merely, another expense.
