Imagine being convicted of a crime such as rape; one of the most inhumane, heartless crimes to commit. Not only will you have to represent everything America shouldn't stand for but also considering the fact that you will as well be put to death with the shame of being branded as a rapist.
It's the eleventh day of February, 1906 and African American, Tennessee native, Ed Johnson was convicted of raping in the Court of Hamilton County, held in Chattanooga. Ed was sentenced with the death penalty. March had sprung around and the execution date was set for the 3rd of the month. There had been a petition for a writ of habeas corpus, which was signed by Ed as the petitioner. Ed had then been represented to the U.S. Circuit Court. Ed had been said that he was denied a fair trial and half of a jury, Ed was also denied help in counsel in violation of the fifth and the sixth amendments to the federal constitution, and that said petitioner had been denied of rights secured under the fourteenth amendment to the federal constitution...
