Utopia- Sir Thomas More
1. In Utopia, I believe Thomas More was reflecting his concerns about problems in the 16th century. He was obviously an extremely intelligent man and I think in Utopia he gives his answer to all the problems he witnesses in the 1500's. More's views on concentrating on society, rather than the individual, reminds me a little bit of Karl Marx. I think that Thomas More believed that reconstructing the social system would not only solve the old problems, but make England a better place overall. He was also a very religious person (obviously since he was later canonized) and I think he believed in people willingly sharing what they had, and people living a simple life with only the basic necessities. I think he made this to show his beliefs in how a perfect system would operate.
2. In many ways I think Sir Thomas More's Utopia is like a mirror reflection of actual life in England during the 1500's. "Those who do not agree with Christianity fear no one who has been converted, nor do they speak against any one who has received Christianity...
