Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez, Second Movement
Commentary:
Joaquin Rodrigo's concierto de Aranjuez is known to be a concerto for guitar and orchestra. This particular concerto has three movements and Concierto de Aranjuez is the second one. This is a typical concerto that consists of musical exchanges between the soloist and the orchestra, meanwhile displaying the playing ability of the soloist. Concierto de Aranjuez features many distinct sections through each movement. First the main melody appears then a contrasting material, followed by its return. The main theme returns again after a long cadenza and the movement conclude with a tender coda. Joaquin Rodrigo's second movement has a tender melancholy quality.
Biography:
Joaquin Rodrigo was born in 1901 in Sagunto, Spain, and by the age of three he was blind. He began studying music at an early age that later in life took him to France to study with the composer Paul Dukas. Rodrigo married in 1933, but could not return to Spain because of the civil war, which during this time he lived in Paris and Germany...
