How does one determine what makes a good story? In “A Hell For Father’s and Sons”, Stephen Holden evaluates an excellent story with strong judgment, keen knowledge to detail, and superb writing. Holden gives a great portrayal of the story and does not break off when giving his argument. In the opening paragraph Holden let’s the reader really get to know the characters, which he then follows with a comparison of the film to more modern pictures such as American Beauty. With a high respect for the look of the film Holden compares the way the camera gently moved with ease at a “discreet aesthetic distance”. Throughout the reading, Holden maintains his interest in the lighting, look, and sound of the film.
