The book "Veronika decides to die" by Paulo Coelho is about spiritual freedom. We need freedom to make the right decisions. However, do we always make the choices WE want to make, or are we enforced to make these choices because society wants us to make them? The main idea of the book is that we have been educated to accept what society makes us. Those who accept what the majority recommends are considered "the normal people". Those who think differently and fight for their dreams are considered "fools".
This story follows Veronika in the mental institution, called Vilette, where she ends up after an unsuccessful suicide attempt. She finds out she will soon die from a damaged heart. Veronika's psychiatrist Dr. Igor starts Veronika's new appreciation of the world around her...
