Brittani De Carlo 5/31/2004 Period : 2 Watergate was one of the biggest scandals a president ever committed. The scandal had centered on the Nixon Administration's attempt to cover up a burglary of the Democratic National Committee. Before this happened at the DNC headquarters, many people came to believe that Watergate really began with the personalities of Richard Nixon and his advisors, as with the roles changing during Presidency. During Nixon's time of Presidency he had a loyal group of advisors included in it were: H.B. Haldeman, John Ehrlichman, & John Mitchell. These men thought they were higher and better than the law, they wanted more power. Their attitudes would soon prompt Nixon and his advisors to cover up their role in Watergate. On June 17, 1972, at 2:30am a guard at Watergate caught five men breaking into the campaign headquarters for DNC. They were to help Nixon with his campaign for President. During the Watergate break - in Nixon didn't cut himself off completely from any link because if he were to do that then he would loose a lot of the people that he had heavily depleted on during his campaign Nixon also didn't want to look more suspicious then what was already going on.
