Does Marijuana Increase Creative Cognition?
Introduction
Marijuana has become a social phenomenon over the last couple of decades. It is known to be the most common used drug in the world. Different people use marijuana for different reasons, such as medical reasons, or social reasons, some people even claim that they use it for 'artistic' reasons. Musicians, poets, painters, and others who belong to the same artsy genre have claimed that when they use marijuana, somehow their creative cognitive abilities are intensified. There has been a lot of research done on marijuana and the effect it has on cognition and the human brain; however, none of them have had enough sufficient evidence to draw a factual conclusion from. Tinklenberg, Darley, Roth, Pfefferbaum, and Kopell (1978) conducted an experiment to test the hypotheses of whether marijuana increased associational thinking during an object description task.
