Fate is inevitable
The theme of Oedipus is that fate is inevitable. Basically, saying that you can't
escape your fate. Oedipus went against the plans of the gods that eventually lead to his
destruction. In this paper, I will use at least dramatic elements to prove my theory of the
theme.
Oedipus the king has four main characters, Oedipus, Creon, Jocasta, and
Tiresias. The stock characters are the priest of Zeus, the messenger, and a Shepard.
Oedipus-As an infant, he was given away by his parents, Laius and Jocasta, the king
Thebes, because a prophecy warned that their son would kill his father and marry his mother. They raised him as their own son, and they gave him the name Oedipus. Creon-is the brother of Jocasta and the king's right hand man. Jocasta- is the mother and the wife of Oedipus...
