He is gone. The greatness, the legend, our Gaius Julius Caesar. Although merely born of the Julian and Aurelian family 55 yrs ago, he rose from poor patrician to become our sole ruler and grew in our hearts. He may have been the greatest political and military mind of our time, working his way up the cursus honorum by his own means, never uttering the word 'help'.
During his youth, he endured the tremendous hardship of his father's death when Julius was just 15. However, he was soon blessed with the marriage to his first wife, Cornelia, daughter of Cinna, who bore him his beloved Julia.
When the fierce dictator Sulla attempted to divorce them, Julius sacrificed his priesthood, Cornelia's dowry, his own inheritance and was forced to leave Rome, all in the name of love.
During this time, he was strongly affected by the actions of his father in law, Cinna and his Aunt Julia's husband, Marius the elder, even once being told that there were many Mariuses within him. Due to the strong military ethics of his family, Julius began service in Asia. He rose further in the public's eye when awarded the Civic Crown of Oak Leaves after his stay in Bithynia...
