Gay Marriage Controversy Prompt Essay A controversial local, national, or global issue in which everyone is familiar with is that of gay marriage. A battle that has been in progress for years is whether equal rights and equal protection against discrimination should be extended to homosexuals. The core conflict is whether all adults in a committed relationship should be allowed to marry or enter into civil unions, regardless of their sexual orientation, as proposed by liberal religious groups and secular organizations. Traditionally in this country, marriage has been defined as a religious & legal commitment between a man and woman, as well as the ultimate expression of love. Homosexual relationships are increasingly gaining acceptance in this country; however, these couples have not been permitted to marry. I oppose gay marriages. Legalizing gay marriage is the long-overdue correction.
