A Peak into the Lives of Fat People
In Hillel Schwartz's article, "Fat and Happy," he gives us a glimpse into the life of a fat person, and the issues and problems they face with day to day occurrences. This article literally gives you the eyes of a fat person and makes you clearly see some of the things they go through just because someone is overweight.
Schwartz explains that being fat is like having a scary, horrible, contagious disease and people treat you and see you as a different person because your outward body structure is larger or shaped differently then theirs. Also that society feels that because you are fat you need to be dieting, and in the eyes of Hillel he feels dieting makes things worse rather then fixing the obesity. Many diets are unsuccessful and this just makes fat people sad, worthless, and makes them feel like they are a failure in every aspects of life, not just with their weight.
This article also defends the fact that being fat doesn't have to be seen as bad and that fatness doesn't necessary cut a person's life short or hinder them from living their life. In fat people the ultimate thing that destructs a person is not the weight in general but the fear of weight itself.
Fat people are often treated in a child like manner, looked down upon and even to some people are thought to be incompetent. People judge them before even getting to know them and label them as being a disgrace to our society and treat them often times as they are less of a person, through name calling and unwanted staring. This ranges from a stranger off the street to
