A human body consists of 206 bones. The bones act as a structure to help support and protect many internal organs. The most important role of the bones is to produce and store cells in the bone marrow. The cells that are stored inside the bone marrow may start to grow abnormally. This abnormal growth of cells is called cancer. Five out of the one hundred cancers known to man are bone cancer, showing that bone cancer is very rare. According to a survey from The National Institute of Health and Public Service, only 2,000 new cases of bone cancer are diagnosed each year. The survey also showed that females are less likely to develop bone cancer than males. Bone tumors are more likely to be found in children than adults.
