The Globe Theater
I chose to do my I-Search report on the Globe Theater because it is something I don't know much about, and I would like to know more. I believe it will help me to understand Shakespeare more, as well as a little bit about history's Elizabethan culture. What I already know about the Globe Theater is that it is where Shakespeare's plays took place during Elizabethan times. I am interested to find out where exactly the theater was located, how popular it was, and if any other things took place there besides Shakespearian plays. I would also like to know if any famous people went to these plays and why it was called the Globe Theater. It would be great to know when it was built, why it was built, and what it looked like, as well as who owned it and whether it is still in existence.
For my first source, I went to the library, as our whole class was researching there, and I found a book called Shakespeare's Theater. The source was very useful. I learned that the Globe Theater was built just outside of London in May 1599 towards the end of Queen Elizabeth I's reign. It is especially famous because Shakespeare's plays were written for performance there, and he is the best known playwright in the English language...
