Peace and war and war even though they sound the same and textually mean
The same when it comes to these two stories in particular peace and war is based on a man who goes to work for the army which is supposedly at war even though it might not be the best word used by the author because it is more likely at a Stale mate. On the other hand the story war is based on the story of a boy who does not like the idea of war, not because he knew much about it, but because he does not want his father to go, because all he knows is that if a person goes to war they are never to return or even if they do they die of the injuries caused by it. All in all even though the contents of both these stories are different they still have a similar theme, War, and the different reactions to it.
The story "Peace and War" starts off with one of the characters in the story taking a taxi to work which is actually a war zone as mentioned, but by this first line itself we come to know that it doesn't sound like the normal wars with gunshots, mortars and people dying. Instead the story moves on with the author explaining the "war zone" surrounding, as the author describes, does sound like a battlefield, but there is no battle it is just like a stale mate where both sides just wait and hold their ground even though once in a while a few shots might get fired, but its title fits it perfectly because even though it is considered as war there is no actual war and where there is no war there is peace. In the story it does mention some of the consequences, for example, when the author gets home from work his wife and him discuss their trip around Europe, but they are restricted to where they go because of the territories in war.
The story"War" is based on the reaction of a young boy towards his father's going to war. Even though it is not much compared to what some people do it is looked at from a young boy's prospective where he doesn't quite understand the meaning of war except for the fact that whoever goes to war dies somehow or the other. Thus he didn't want his father to go, he talks about the fact that his father has to teach him to skate again and is finding reasons for his father to stay back, even though they might sound petty to a grown up it is quite relevant to the boy. He then realizes that if he hides then maybe out of concern for his son he might not go...
