My name is Honovi and I am a female Hopi Indian, happily married with a two-year old son. Today is just an ordinary day in the lives of the Hopi. It's seven o'clock and we awake to another hot and sunny morning a top the high isolated mesa in Northern Arizona which we live. My clan and I, a small group of my family, are just beginning to stir as we prepare to start a new day. The climate here is always very hot and dry just like today, however we usually receive rain annually. The rain is very important to us and without it our crops might not be able to survive.
Every day it is my duty to do the cooking in my family. So I prepare breakfast and my family and I sit down to eat. Our breakfast usually consists of corn or some other type of crop or fruit from the fields. But first, we make sure that we pray to the Kachinas...
