"Woman Who Ran Over Husband Gets 20 Years," was the headline on many newspapers across the country on February, 14, 2003. It is poetic irony that Clara Harris should be sentenced on what would have been her and David Harris' 11th wedding anniversary.
What caused this successful, sane, loving wife and loving mother to run over her husband several times with her Mercedes? It was a crime of passion. On July 17 David told Clara about his affair with Gail Bridges, his former receptionist. Clara did what any wronged spouse would do and got very angry but felt they could work through this.
On July 24, David was to have dinner with Gail and tell her he was sorry and that what happened was not her fault. However, what really took place was David and Gail going to a hotel, the same hotel where David and Clara had their wedding reception just 10 years before. When Clara saw David and Gail getting off the elevator together she attacked Gail and security had to pull her away. Clara and Lindsey, David's 16 year old daughter from a previous marriage, got into the Mercedes and drove around the hotel's parking lot and saw David comforting Gail...
