Critique #1-The Crucible
For my first Critique I came across "The Crucible" at Blockbuster. This was one of the recommended movies on the list provided in class. The play took place in a late 1600's Salem, Massachusetts. The townspeople believed that witchery and the devil had gotten a hold of the town. As I got ready to sit down to watch the movie, I set the A/C temperature to 74 degrees, and tried to forget about the $15 that I had spent, thanks to my brother turning in our previous rentals late. Since I was alone at home, there were not many other distractions for me to worry about.
The opening scene showed a group of young girls running towards the forest and dancing around in a voodoo-like manner. While this occurred, the reverend of the town (Reverend Paris) walked to the forest, and found this ritual taking place. The girls quickly ran off, but he found his niece (Abigail) and daughter (Betty) unconscious. The girls all confessed that they had seen devil spirits, and they falsely accused locals to being linked with the devil...
