Based on my research, I have found that the city of Ashville has a very competitive coffee industry. Although the majority of these establishments are small and privately owned, they are also very expensive. For this reason I believe that the Starbucks Corporation would have an excellent chance to flourish in the Asheville market.
According to the 2000 census, Ashville is growing at a rate of 0.9 percent annually. Much of this group tends to be a variety of people who enjoy the quiet lifestyle that many people already posses in the area, this is the perfect example of the demographic in which Starbucks likes to target. While the store is there for everyone to enjoy it takes pride in providing a relaxing atmosphere for people who need to unwind and relax. Starbucks is also considered a "trendy" type of restaurant, which could be greatly beneficial in providing for the already large and growing 18-24 demographic. Another major influence in the community is Asheville's local university that enrolls close to 8,000 students that would more than likely take advantage of the store.
