Respect for life
1) Explain the churches teachings on sancity of life with particular relvelents to abortion.
One situation when some Christians think that abortion is justifiable is when continued pregnancy would mean that there is a risk to the life of the pregnant woman. It could be that the woman already has other children who are depended on her.
Another sistuation is if a woman has been raped and become pregnant of this and this would not be good if she contuined to have the baby and then have to bring up the child and think that it is the baby of the man that raped her.
Most Christians would agree that to use abortion as a means of birth control is evil, but not all would condemn this legalistion. Roman Catholics denounce abortion altogether. They believe that the foetus is an individual human being from the beginning. But protestants believe that the embryo should be protected from the start, but not if it endangers the life of its mother.
Christians stress, however, that throughout society we need a much more responsible attutide towards sexual relationships. At its best sexual love expresses one person's total commitment to another...
