My friends at home are perplexed as to why I attend an all-girls Christian camp for five weeks every summer, rather than opting for spontaneous beach trips or days spent shopping at the mall. Yet I would prefer to spend my summers in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. My summer home, Camp Greystone, assists girls in growing mentally, spiritually, physically, and socially. Camp Greystone is meaningful to me because of the life-long friendships I have made and the promise that I will grow in my spiritual relationship with Christ.
Friendships established at Camp Greystone last much longer than the five weeks we are there. Even though my camp friends live thousands of miles away, my bond with them is stronger than the bond I have with most of my friends at home. This bond is so strong because our friendships are rooted in Christ. Time and again my camp friends have demonstrated that they will do absolutely anything to help me in a time of need. I recall one particular time when my friend Gracie and I were sitting on the canoe docks fretting over giving a speech in front of the entire camp. All of a sudden the piece of paper I was writing on was whisked out of my hand by a huge gust of wind and landed in the lake...
