Patrick Henry's Speech to the Virginia House of Burgess Convention
Patrick Henry made the most persuasive speeches of his time, his "Give me liberty or give me death" speech moved a colony to war in 1775. Patrick was born in 1736 in colony of Virginia. By the age of twenty-nine he was chosen to represent his Virginia House of Burgesses. Although, Henry had not always been successful he was a farmer in his younger years and he did not prosper. His love of speaking made him turn to law. He was elected twice for Governor of Virginia. He was elected in the Virginia legislator in 1799 but died before he ever took his seat.
In Patrick Henry's speech his purpose is to persuade everyone in the Virginia House of Burgess to go to arms against the British. He believed so strongly in his cause the he went up against 8 speeches before him and won the House's vote. His message is that the British will only listen to war and that it is there only chance at freedom...
