Uncle Sam Needs your Vote

As the title of this essay implies, Uncle Sam does need your vote, to be more specific, he needs every American's vote. Unfortunately in the presidential elections of 2000, only 52 percent of the United States' population heeded his request. This number was one of the lowest turnouts for any election in American history, the lowest being in the elections of 1996, where less than 40 percent of the electorate voted. What is worse is that the 2000 election dealt with much deceit and disappointment with the surprise election of our current President, George W. Bush. Could this historic mistake have been prevented if the voter turn out was higher? It is difficult to say, however, it is certain than in the 2004 election power in numbers will definitely impact the outcome.
In the 2000 election, only 102 million Americans that were eligible to vote did vote. Compare this number to that of Australia's, where Australians are fined 15 Australian dollars if they can not come up with a sufficiently plausible excuse as to why they did not vote.
