Evaluate the causes of the fall of the Romanov Dynasty in 1917
The fall of the Romanov Dynasty in 1917 was contributed by several significant causes, some of which were established a great amount of time before World War One. The major causes of the fall included economic, social and political reasons. The effect of the World War on the people and army followed by the Tsars great mistake which eventuallu led to the Revolution of 1917 and the end of the Romanov Dynasty.
Before World War One Russia encountered a period of greater stability to which conditions began to improve. Though, the outbreak of war in 1914 interrupted these improvements. In April 1906, the Tsar had appointed a new prime minister called Peter Stolypin. Stolypin was elected to crush the 1905 revolution which had caused unrest and discontent within Russia and win back the lost support of the Tsar. Had been described as a 'tough and intelligent man' Stolypin established a reform which allowed peasants to buy strips of land individually and be able to sell it. At this point Russia's agriculture began to improve with an increase in the production of rice and a record harvest by 1913, as 15% of peasants took up his offer.
