In 1984 by George Orwell, much detail is used to help convey things such as character development, setting, and credibility to the novel itself. Orwell uses much diction and detail to give the characters in the novel life and make them all unique in their own way. Some may be little things such as different word that the normal person may not use in today’s society such as “comrade” (116). The things people say can reveal a lot about their personality. Just like how Julia criticized someone at first glance by saying that “she’s a meter across the hips” (240). Orwell did a fantastic job letting the reader know just how the characters would react to certain situations, using as much detail as possible to help us have a better understanding.
