Sacrifice and Rebellion
Although there are many aspects unknown about sacrifices, it is clearly understood that they are performed to obtain some kind of a reward. In ancient cultures, some sacrifices were performed for the growing of crops. They were offered to a god so that there would be enough rain for the crops to grow well. As time passed people started to put an end to such atrocities. In Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" and "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, human sacrifices are done in favor of the community's advantage. In both stories, one of the reasons for the sacrifices is to ensure the community's good harvest. Even though most of the community accepts the practices, the new generation is beginning to understand that there is no need for such violence.
"The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" is a story about a town where most of the people live without limits and feel no remorse at all. They perform a variety of activities without stopping and thinking whether they are acting properly or not...
