Should File-Sharing Be Legal??
For many people, the process of booting up their computer, and finding, downloading, and playing nearly any piece of music is a simple one. This service,'file-sharing', is defined as a network of users around the world connected to a server and trading music files. The music industry claims this should be cracked down on and illegalized, because no money reaches musicians. This needn't be the case. Because there is not an unlimited selection, people are sometimes inclined to purchase CD's with more of their favorite band's music. Furthermore, legitimate file-sharing networks, operating on a pay-per-download system, are viable alternatives. Finally, other industries, namely the movie industry, have profited from the lowering of DVD prices and movie-sharing on the internet.
The number one reason people use Peer-2-Peer software (file sharing programs) to find music, is often to see what bands they like, or see what a new band sounds like. For a very large percentage of the file-sharing public, P2P is a way to explore options..
