Response: The Tell Tale Heart
My initial reaction to the story was that it kept me thinking. It was full of suspense and great detail. At times when the character was talking about what he was doing and how careful he was being it was some what thought provoking and made me feel as if I were actually in the room. The part that I liked the best was how calm and relaxed the character was and also how much pride he was taking in what he was doing "Ha! would a madman have been so wise as this?".
One of the things that I didn't understand but caught my attention the first time reading through was why Edgar Allen Poe kept using the term enveloped. For example "enveloped the victim" or "enveloped in cotton". I couldn't figure out the significance of it and why he chose such an interesting word. Also he uses and incredible amount of dashes (-), he used over 60 of them in various places...
