The Damnation of a Canyon
In this essay, The Damnation of a Canyon, Edward Abbey writes rhetorically about his experiences and views of Glen Canyon. Edward visited the Glen Canyon in the summer of 1959 with one of his friends. They took a journey through the canyon on rafts. As a few years went on he got a job as a seasonal park ranger at the new Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. As he was working there he got to see the reservoir they had turned Glen Canyon into. Edward did not like what he was seeing. He felt that seeing Glen Canyon before and after its damnation that he is in a good position to tell people what has changed and what views he has on it. Lake Powell which was formed from Glen Canyon has water that resembles a bath tub because it has a water ring around it. The canyon used to have beautiful plants and animals, now almost all of those things were buried under mud. Along with this the Canyon used to be a quiet, place where people could enjoy the peace...
