"Veronika Decides to Die" written by Paulo Coelho and "Girl, Interrupted" directed by James Mangold but story is based on Susanna Kaysen's popular memoir are both successful works of searching the meaning of life and relocate the definition of sanity and insanity. In the world we are living, can we say that our society is perfectly normal, or perfectly correct? Or, everything is just an illusion, the entire world is wrong, but we just cannot do anything about it? Who truly are sane or insane in the world? First of all, we will discuss in general the novel and the movie about the central conflict in both works. Then we will analyze the similarities and differences of both protagonists. Afterward, we could look at antagonists' side. Therefore, we will explain the use of literary device and how it reinforces the themes in both pieces. Followed by previous discussions, we will now look a second literary device. Finally, the conclusion will be divided into two parts; first part, a general summery and brief conclusion; second part, it will be a personal opinion based on my own experience, knowledge and values...
