Democracy in America
Alexis de Tocqueville was a Frenchman that was looking to America to view its' form of democracy. He saw his country going towards democratization and he wanted to know what was going on. He came over to research prison reforms and studied our system of politics. He started this book after his trip. Each volume was written at a different time, with a different purpose.
The Book basically discusses America and its' political system along with history. The first volume made it seem that Tocqueville was very positive about America's government and society. He writes about how it works and describes in great detail all the parts of both (society and government).
