"Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" has the characteristics of a medieval romance. In the poem Sir Gawain is a courageous knight who takes the deadly challenge who undergoes challenges in order to test honor, and prove himself powerful. Temptations and difficulties will beset Sir Gawain's moral judgment and prove his true nature.
The Green Knight's wife seduces Sir Gawain, during his stay at the Green Knight's castle. Sir Gawain is attracted to her; however, cannot do anything to ruin his chastity, because she is the Green knight's wife. This is a characteristic of gallant love. The Lady tries to influence Sir Gawain in order to seduce him. During Sir Gawain's stay at the Green Knight's house, there is a fight between the wits of two characters: Gawain trying to keep his honor and truthfulness toward the Green Knight, while not insulting the Lady. The Lady is still using her every appeal to force Gawain into the trap.
Though in the end Sir Gawain give in to the Lady's seduction, by accepting the green sash...
