"The Notebook" My Thoughts
Norman Mailer is an American author. Critics have sometimes attacked his work, but Mailer's readers usually find his essays and novels fascinating and disturbing because they mirror the underside of modern culture. Mailer has analyzed the myths and unconscious impulses that underlie human behavior. He often stresses sex and violence, but he uses these elements for artistic purposes and not merely to shock. The essay "The Notebook", by Norman Mailer does a wonderful job transporting the reader into the scene by using organization, diction, and sensory/specific detail.
The introduction sets the scene, and as a reader it pulls you in exactly where the characters are. The writer and the young lady start off walking home and are in an argument. There are a lot of emotions passing back and forth from the young lady to the writer.
I am sick and tired of you, the young lady exclaimed.
I'm sick and tired of you being so superior...
