Rugged American individualism is the idea that each and every American is a unique individual with their own thoughts and opinions, and has the right and the freedom to choose their own future and control their own lives. This concept originated from the first colonists that broke away from England's rule to become free. They were sick of being dictated over by a single person with no say in how their lives were run whatsoever. The colonists had their own ideas about how they should be living their lives, so they took a great chance and sailed to America so that they could be free to govern themselves as they pleased. This concept of American individualism has proved itself very valid as our country has struggled through many tough times to gain equality and freedom for all people residing within the United States.
America is geared toward everyone being their own person and living how they choose and see fit. The diversity that we have in our country only makes it better and it allows us to appreciate and celebrate our differences. In our system in America we encourage people to be individuals because it helps us function better as a whole. We all have skills, qualities, and preferences about us that allow different kinds of people to be good at different jobs. We need that diversity to help our work force grow and succeed...
