Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances (United States Constitution – 1st Amendment). The 1st Amendment in the constitution of the United States addresses that there is freedom of religion and that there shall be no laws established to prohibit the exercise of religion. This does not, however clearly state exactly where people may exercise that freedom, be it in schools or any where else in society. The posting of the Ten Commandments in our schools is not unconstitutional, for it is “ The basis of our civilization” (Forbes A22).
