Galveston Island

Like a mirage, a huge bridge came into view and everyones eyes were afixed to their windows, as the journey across the only entrance to the island began. Halfway over the bridge, the beach homes lining the shore came into view. The tall smoke stacks of the cruise ships over-shawdowed the tops of houses as they were getting ready to leave port. Reaching the end of the bridge, pickup trucks loaded with surfers and surf boards rushed around us. Other cars that were leaving, had backseats filled with kids, sun-burnt red , but still pointing to the mysterious blue body of water that was now behind them. As we reached the beach, the crashing waves drowned out the sound of cars bustling by behind us. The waves crashing down caused smaller, rippling waves to rush ashore covering anything in its path. The kids playing along the waters edge welcomed the smaller rippling waves with extreme intensity.
