Socialization is the process by which an individual learns his or her culture. Culture here refers to the acceptable way of behaving within society. When an individual is born it is expected that this person will receive their primary form of socialization from family members. This means that until this person is sent of to school his family would do the necessary by teaching him how to walk, talk, dress, eat, etc.
It is only after this process has successfully taken place that he would be able to begin to function within his society. His second form of socialization would emerge within the educational system. At this point teachers would not only embed upon the individual academic skills but they would also teach him how to act as part of a group and how he should respond to authoritative figures. Provided that these lessons do not fall upon deaf ears the individual then proceeds to his third form of socialization which he receives from his working environment.
Socializing therefore is considered to be a lifelong process. As an individual goes through life, without even being aware of it, certain norms and values are instilled within him...
