There are many people who do not understand why so much attention is placed on not driving after drinking. Television and radio commercials and advertisements in magazines continue to tell people to drink responsibly. Even sellers of alcoholic beverages urge consumers to exercise good judgement when it comes to drinking and driving. People should not drink and drive for three reasons: it is expensive, it is deadly, and it can be wasteful.
First, drinking and driving can be quite expensive. If a driver is stopped by a law enforcement officer, financial troubles are just the beginning. A traffic ticket can easily cost more than $200 on the first offense. On subsequent offenses, the fines may be higher and jail time could result.
