College Pressures
College Pressures, written by William Zinsser begins with a authentic conversation of a Branford College student named Carlos. It becomes apparent in reading the first line, that Carlos is exceedingly anxious and wound up about his studies. "I desperately need a dean's excuse for my chem. Midterm, which will begin in about one hourI've fallen incredibly, inconceivably behind". Zinsser, the master at Branford College addresses multiple types of pressures that the average student at Branford College undergoes. The types of tension exemplified are financial, parental, peer, self induced and professional. He supports his claims by quotes from students at Branford College, first hand accounts, statistics and by student notes.
Along with the laden examples of pressures, Zinsser takes the causes of anxiety a step further and states that extracurricular activities and the large amount of course choices also adds to the students stress. There are simply to many to choose from. He also states that students are picking activities that will not take up too much of their time and that there is a ending in the near future...
