Throughout the presidential debate on September 30, Senator Kerry and President Bush discussed and battled over the issues concerning the war in Iraq. The men both portrayed an image of confidence; however Bush seemed to have a more difficult time with his responses. He would take long pauses, stutter, and would frequently say "uh" and "um." Overall, Kerry's delivery seemed more prepared.
During the debate, it was evident that both men were equally concerned about the well-fare of Americans. Bush stated numerous times, "It is my solemn duty to protect the American people," while Kerry continued to imply that he had great concern for the troops, and when elected president, help would be on the way. It is Kerry's goal to get the troops out of Iraq as soon as he can, while Bush's plan is to keep the troops there until the mission is completed. With this debate covering the war, Kerry seemed to have more credibility than Bush since he served in Vietnam. Kerry feels that America is involved with the wrong war at the wrong place at the wrong time, similar to the war in Vietnam.
