Through out history disease has affected many humans all over the world. From measles, to smallpox, to the flu, these diseases have been infecting people for years. Many of them were caused by the rise of agriculture, and then presence of animals in everyday life. Agriculture has seemed to be the main cause of many of the epidemics world wide, and since agriculture rose the existence of animals in farming became a necessity. In this case animals have been a leading cause of the spread of diseases in humans throughout the 20th century.
Many diseases, including smallpox, measles, and the flu came from germs that infected animals. People who took in animals as pets became contaminated with these illnesses (Diamond, Pg 92). Other major killers that came from animals have been the flu, tuberculosis, malaria, plague and cholera. These illnesses evolved from diseases in animals, and are then confined to humans (Diamond, Pgs 196-197).
