Chapter 5: Safety and Discipline When in charge of other people’s children the highest priority is their safety. A key step is to childproof all areas of the house making it safe for children. For example putting plastic covers on all of the electrical plugs. Another key step is by preventing accidents before they happen. Some ways of doing this are by: only giving children playthings without small or sharp parts to them, keep all plastic bags away from children because they are a chocking hazard, restrict all areas that I child can walk or crawl in, teach children what “hot” is and what to not touch like the stove or heater, keep children away from fans, take them only to well maintained playgrounds, and always wear seatbelts and always put children in car seats. Always give children limits on where they are allowed to go. Teach children what a stranger is and that they should avoid them at all times. You should never leave a child with someone you don’t trust. And last you should always listen to a child.
