Teaching elementary school-aged children requires a special type of person. Teachers have many routines that they must adhere to including lesson planning and preparation, communicating with parents, other teachers, and school officials, grading, classroom guidance and behavior issues, and most important, building relationships with the students. As Henry Brooks Adams stated, "A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." I want to be a teacher that students remember as caring, fair, and compassionate. Teaching is not only a job. It is going to be my life's work. The reasons I want to be a teacher are best summed up by President Bushs' Initiative on Education Excellence. In his initiative, President Bush and his wife Laura Bush give ten reasons to become a teacher.
"To ignite the spark of curiosity in children" is the first reason given in the initiative. Children need guidance to a certain degree, but it is also important to allow them to explore and discover things on their own...
