"I never promise you a rose garden" is one of those movies that can really make you think about certain things. This movie was about a suicidal girl, Debbie, who periodically retreats into a scary fantasy world inhabited by a frightening tribe of savages. The movie overall tells her stories of her stay in the mental hospital, the other patients that she meets there, and her treatment by the Doctor. This movie being made in the 70's portrays the mental hospital during that time, wheras I, myself, know mental hospitals as they are today. The movie made the mental hospital have a real authentic feel. To watch Debbie go through all of the obstacles and struggles that she did was simply amazing. It represented what it was like to go through such a disease as schizophrenia. The doctor was also tremendous in this movie. She got to know Debbie for who she really was inside compared to who she was outside, and got around that obstacle in order to help her. She gave Debbie hope and strength that she would get better, she only had to put her mind to it...
