Expected Roles in Society
Everyone has a different role in society based on many things such as; who they are, what gender they are, and what their age is. We are expected to act in a certain way based on these different criteria. Interestingly enough, in the 20th century roles are facing dramatic changes, especially between genders. More men then ever are learning to shop and women are exploring the world of mechanics, among many other things.
Everyone should be given the chance to experience new things. Whether it is learning how to change the oil in your car or learning to prepare a well-balanced meal for yourself or your family. Roles similar to these are generally based on gender and have been stereotypical of either men or women. The nearly ancient female stereotype that women should stay at home with the children, and should not be allowed to work outside of the home has virtually vanished, and women have proven to be just as efficient and effective as men. Nearly every business in the United States, as well as many other countries, employs thousands of women.
