Verizon Communications, which is a fortune 20 company, is one of the world's leading providers of communications services. A few of the communication services Verizon provides are wireline and wireless products, telecom products as well as wireless internet, national and international phone services. There are also local telephone services, including data and voice transport. Verizon provides long distance, director assistance, as well as private and public telephone lines. Sixty-Eight billion dollars in annual revenues are brought in yearly because of those services. Based in New York and incorporated in Delaware, Verizon Communications was formed on June 20th, 2000, because GTE and Bell Atlantic Corp merged. Verizon began trading on the NYSE under its new "VZ" symbol on Monday, July 3rd, 2000. The "VZ" symbol was chosen because it uses 2 of the 7 letters of the name Verizon. The name Verizon was chosen from the Latin word Veritas and horizon. The symbol, "VZ", is said to portray speed, and it is close to the Latin form of the company name: Veritas...
