I chose to write this log about an article I read entitled, “Rape as a weapon of war widespread in Sudan. ... They have been sweeping into cities to kill the men and rape their women while stealing their belongings. ... Pam Shifman, the reporter, claimed that rape is being used as a weapon of war against entire communities to make the people feel shame and fear. ... One woman reported that she witnessed the rape of 11 girls at once by the Jangaweed.
Shifman deduced that rape is being used as a weapon because it humiliates and shames an individual and an entire community. Because of this, rape becomes and excellent method of warfare. The women and girls who Shifman interviewed also said that he major problem they face is that they are not feeling safe and they are constantly threatened with rape and sexual violence.
